How to create a project in Jira?
Precondition(s):
- You are logged in into Jira
Instructions:
- Select dropdown ”Project” in the top bar
- Select ”Create project” in the drop down
- Select ”Scrum”
- Select ”Use template”
- Select ”Select a company-managed project”
- Fill in the form
- Enter a project name
- Review (or edit) the generated Key
- Select the checkbox ”Share settings with an existing project” and select “Capturum template project (EMTP)” (this prevents us from managing all different kinds of projects)
- Select the checkbox ”Connect repositories, documents, and more”
- Select “Next”
- Do not check “Create a space” for ”Confluence Cloud”. (Each project will have its own portal in Sharepoint)
- Select “Skip”
- Click “go back to project”
- Select dropdown ”Board” in the menu which is presented in the left side of the screen
- Select ”+ Create board”
- Create a Scrum board
- Select ”Board from an existing project” and click “next”
- Fill in the form
- Write down the name of the board ”<Project key> | Developers”
- Select the project you created at step 1 in this instruction
- Check if the location is correctly presented
- Click “Create board
- Select ”…” in the top right corner”
- Select ”Board settings”
- Select ”Columns”
- Create the following lanes with the statuses (from left to right) (Add columns if necessary)
- Sprint to Do

- SPRINT TO DO
- REDO
- In Progress
- IN PROGRESS
- In Review
- IN REVIEW
- Ready for Test
- READY FOR TEST
- In Test
- IN TEST
- Ready for Acceptance
- READY FOR ACCEPT
- All the other statusses must be swiped to ”Unmapped statusses” (the grey area at the right side of your screen)
- Select ”Card layout”
- Select the toggle ”Days in column” and make sure it is on (green)
- Select ”Estimation”
- Select ”Original Time Estimate” in the drop down ”Estimation Statistic”
- Select ”Roadmap”
- Select the toggle ”Enable the roadmap for <board name> and make sure it is disabled (grey)
- Make sure you select “Roadmap” in the settings section where you already where, not the one in the side bar on the left side of the screen.
- Select ”<- Back to board” at the top right of your screen
- Select ”…” in the top right corner
- Select ”Create board”
- Create a Kanban board
- Select ”Board from an existing project”
- Fill in the form
- Write down the name of the board ”<project key> | PM”
- Select the project you created at step 2 in this instruction
- Check if the location is correctly presented
- select “Create board”
- Select ”…” in the top right corner”
- Select a ‘Kanban’ board
- Select ”Board settings”
- Select ”Columns”
- Create the following lanes with the statusses (from left to right):
- Backlog
- BACKLOG
- ON HOLD
- Selected for development
- SELECTED FOR DEVELOPMENT
- Refined
- REFINED
- Pokered
- POKERED
- To Do
- SPRINT TO DO
- REDO
- In Development
- IN PROGRESS
- IN REVIEW
- READY FOR TEST
- IN TEST
- Ready for Acceptance

- Select ”None” in drop down ”Base swimlanes on”
- Select ”Card layout”
- Add value ´´E Time Spent´´
- Add value ´´E Original Estimate´´
- Select ”Roadmap”
- Select the toggle ”Enable the roadmap for <board name> and make sure it is disabled (grey)
- Select ”<- Back to board” at the top right of your screen
Importing default issues for hour logging into your project:
- Go to “Issues” in the sidebar at the left side of your screen
- Select ”…” in the top right corner”
- Select “Import issues from CSV”
- Select “Choose file” under “CSV Source File” and upload file
- Go to: Emendis_JIRA_Default-issues-template-Capturum.csv
- click on 3 dots to download the file “Emendis_JIRA_Default-issues-template-Capturum.csv”
- (be sure the file is saved as CSV
- Select “Use an existing configuration file”
- Select “Choose file” under “Configuration file” and upload “Emendis_JIRA_BulkCreate-configuration-202108161409.csv” file:Emendis_JIRA_BulkCreate-configuration-202108161409.txt
- Select “Next”
- Change “Import to Project” to the project you are importing to.
- Select “Next”
- Again select “Next”
- Select “Validate” (takes some seconds)
- Select “Begin Import”
- Go to the “Projects” dropdown at the top of the screen and find your project again.
- Go to “Issues” in the sidebar at the left side of your screen
- Select ”…” in the top right corner”
- Select “Bulk change all 16 issue(s)”
- Check them all by checking the box left of “summary”
- Select “Next”
- Select “Transition issues” and select “Next” after
- Select “To Hour registration” and select “Next” after
- Do not check “Send mail for this update”
- Make sure everything in the overview corresponds with this tutorial. Select “Confirm” after
- Select “Done” when completed
Select “Project settings”
- Set Project category to “Active”
- Add an Avatar with the client logo
- Add “TEAM #” to description, where the # is replaced with your scrum team number
- Go to People and add the group Project Management with the role Project Management
- Hebben je klanten toegang nodig tot het JIRA-bord, neem dan contact op met een admin. Die kan dan de juiste groepen aanmaken en de rollen toewijzen aan die groepen.

Add project to Team Jira board
- Navigeer naar je board-setting via de 3-dot-menu rechtsbovenin.
- Navigeer naar de tab “General”.
- Klik op “Edit Filter Query”.
- Voeg het gewenste project toe aan de dropdown:
- Klik op “Save” en het filter is opgeslagen. LET OP! KLIK NIET OP SAVE AS! Op het moment dat er “Save as” staat heb je OF geen wijzigingen gemaakt OF mis jij en/of het project bepaalde permissies. Vraag @Kevin Dorlas | Emendis in dit geval even om hulp.
- Herhaal de stappen voor het andere board (PM / Development).
- Enjoy.
